Despite what people may think, the Middle East offers surf in surprisingly good amounts and is often far less crowded than in other more popular world destinations.
The Gulf offers up wind driven swell with waves up to 6ft plus in areas such as the UAE where the main surfing community is centred. Reports of surf have also come in from countries such as Iraq, Iran, Qatar, Bahrain and several others in the region too. It only makes you wonder how many untouched waves go un-ridden every day.
Egypt also has a healthy surfing population with a budding community of surfers making their way thru the season and scoring some fun waves. Lebanon too is a little know gem of surf offering up good size, un-crowded surf with the possibility if going snowboarding on the same day too!
Israel has a good size surfing community and has quite a population of Surf shops and board suppliers. Their neighbours in Gaza have a surf club and are fiercely active surfers who get a lot of media coverage due to their passion for surfing in this war ravaged area.
Oman has the most consistent open ocean swells with summertime providing a feast of point breaks for the hungry surfer. The offshore islands and coast of Yemen has excellent waves for the surfers looking for some adventure.
There are also small communities of surfers in all of these areas with waves being reported from places as far as Pakistan, Turkey and India too.
The Middle East is essentially a playground of unexplored surf in mystical, strange and unexplored countries so get in touch and get travelling.
