Oman is a very popular destination for surfers from the UAE as it is very accessible by car, very affordable and you can camp right in front of most surf spots.

It also has waves almost all year round, a great climate, as well as excellent swell and great lower temperatures during the peak of the UAE summer making it the No 1 local choice for surfing in summer for surfers in the region.Accommodatio is howver limited to camping by a youth hostel and hotel can be found in Al Ashkarah and Salalah. Driving takes around 8 – 10 hours and visas are supplied at the border for European and Amaerican passport holders as well as UAE residency permit holders.

The surf is found on the lower East coast, anywhere from around 3 hrs south of Muscat (see map) and all the way south from that to the border of Yemen. The most popular surf areas are around Asyllah, Al Ashkarrah, Masirah island and Salalah. Oman surf is mainly long right hand point breaks, fun beach breaks but it has some excellent reef breaks too, especially on Masirah.

The best months are around June to September when the Khareef (monsoon) sends good swells marching up the coast cooling the temperature at the coast to an average of 28 degrees making it a great summer escape. The water temperature is generally very comfortable and warm but a short wetsuit is sometimes needed.

Supplies like food and fuel are available at most big towns and issues like flat tires, breakdowns etc etc will quickly be sorted out by friendly locals. Oman is also very safe and the local people are some of the friendliest in the world.
