Since October 2005 Handsdown has been taking it back from the jocks!

Three mates returned to South Africa from traveling abroad riding boards of all different types. They decided to pool their collective 45 years experience in surfing, skating, skimboarding, wakeboarding and establishment dodging. Another bearded guy joined them after trying on a Handsdown cap, which didn't come off his head for over 2 years and nobody else would employ him. The cap had continually massaged his brain and he couldn't think about anything but Handsdown.

Having worked extensively in the graphic design and clothing industries gave insight into the design and manufacture spheres. We have held to three primary areas of refinement – Quality, Comfort and Durability. Our theory is that there is always room for improvement in these areas. With this in mind we aim to be innovative and progressive in our approach to development. So we wear what we produce, we ride it, we test it, we question it and we spend time on it. We are building a brand and a range of products that can be appreciated to the max by the people who see it, wear it or use it.

Jock: (jok) Slang. One characterized by excessive concern for machismo.
[Short for jockstrap.] The peacock’s tail, the grotesquely enlarged claw of the male fiddler crab and the machismo of members of the human species are all exaggerated features that may cause injury to individuals that display them but attract females.
